From hotel congress to crystal clear waters

Coach- and group trip to the Green Lake in Tragöß

The Green Lake is a karst lake in Styria and impresses nature-loving visitors in many ways. The water level fluctuates greatly throughout the year, allowing you to constantly rediscover the lake and the surrounding forests. Nestled in the mountains of Styria, you can experience nature with all your senses. The crystal-clear water provides views that are otherwise only possible in tropical waters.

The Green Lake - natural jewel and phenomenon

The water level of the lake fluctuates between one meter throughout the year and can reach up to 10 meters at its highest point. The main reason for this is the melting snow, which, together with the rising temperatures in spring, ensures that the lake fills with meltwater from the surrounding mountains. The rising water then gradually floods the lower-lying paths, banks, bridges and meadows. From spring to late summer, the Green Lake shows its most beautiful side.

In fall and winter, the Green Lake disappears almost completely. The once flooded benches invite you to take a seat again and enjoy the mountain panorama.

Hiking and enjoying the green lake

The vote for the "most beautiful place in Austria" and the Facebook post by an American film actor in 2014 led to a real rush of visitors to the small lake. The authorities were therefore forced to ban diving, swimming and boating in 2016. Since then, the Green Lake has once again lain quietly and calmly in its dip and is reserved for hikers and nature lovers.

Even today, the paths around the lake are crowded with people on beautiful weekends. But the emerald green water of the lake remains untouched and offers the eye and soul rest from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Hotel tip: Traveling by bus and combination options

The drive to Tragöß via Bruck an der Mur takes around 45 minutes. From the parking lot, the 1km long path leads to the Green Lake. The Kreuzteich pond in front of it is also worth a visit and should definitely be included in your plans. Sturdy footwear is recommended for the paths around the lake.

Combine your trip to the Green Lake with a stopover in the neighboring town of Bruck an der Mur or a visit of the Stübing Open-Air Museum.

The hotel team would be pleased to put together an individual accommodation and excursion package for you.
