Climbing and bouldering in Leoben

Aiming high after work

There are few sports that require or allow as much focus as climbing. The equipment has been checked, the route chosen and the hand placed on the first hold. From now on, everyday life stays on the ground while you gain height. Switch off step by step and clear your head.

The best thing about it: the Leoben climbing routes are even close enough for a short evening climbing session.

Rock climbing in the climbing garden on the Häuselberg in Leoben

The Häuselberg is well known to visitors and locals alike as a local recreation area. Rock climbers get their money's worth on the Häuselberg. The Lesnerwand has around 50 climbing routes with difficulty levels from three to nine. Due to the south-western orientation of the wall, you can climb here almost all year round. From easily inclined tours to overhangs, there is something here for all climbers. The routes lead over limestone of varying quality.

The biggest advantage of the climbing garden on Häuselberg is its perfect accessibility. Follow the B116 from Leoben in the direction of St. Michael and you will reach the parking lot on Häuselberg after 5 minutes by car from Hotel Kongress. Passing the Port 361 restaurant on the right, always follow the forest path and then the hiking trail, and you will reach the start of the first routes after a 10-minute walk.

There are many other options for climbing enthusiasts within an hour's drive in the Grazer Bergland, Hochschwab and Gesäuse mountains.

Sport climbing at Leoben’s sports hall:

It is only a 10-minute walk from Hotel Kongress to the sports hall at Roseggerstraße 8, where you can climb toprope or without a break on the outer wall. Telephonic reservation is required, but can usually be done at short notice (on the same day). Hall manager Markus Lubensky-Sollfellner will be happy to take your reservation under +43 676 84 4062-569.

Due to the lack of a roof, the climbing wall can only be used to a limited extent in bad weather. The climbing gyms in Judenburg or Mitterdorf can be reached by car in half an hour.

Indoor bouldering at Boulderpoint Leoben:

For a quick full-body workout, bouldering is the method of choice. 1,500 metres from the hotel, professionals can let off steam in this 1,300m² climbing area. For beginners, the Leoben bouldering hall is the perfect place to try out bouldering and climbing for the first time. Bouldering does not require extensive equipment. You can rent the shoes you need for your first attempts on site. Regardless of the weather, you can experience the fascination of this trendy sport here. For those who want to learn more about bouldering or improve their climbing skills, there are always courses for different skill levels offered.
